Scott County Horse Farms
Scott County is the location of dozens of horse farms, large and small. Many breeds - Thoroughbreds, Standardbreds, American Saddlebreds, Morgans, Paints, Quarter horses and Miniatures are bred here for racing, show and pleasure use. The county includes breeding farms and training facilities.
One of the county's most famous horses, 1988 Kentucky Derby winning filly Winning Colors, was foaled at Echo Valley Farm. Scott County has produced two more Kentucky Derby Winners -- Kingman & Venetian Way. Another famous "player" in the horse world - Bucky Sallee, the bugler who provides the call to the post at famous Keeneland Race Course in Lexington - is a Scott County resident.
Most private Scott County horse farms are closed to the public; however several allow visitors by appointment only. Other area farms offer lessons and/or trail rides. Be sure to call ahead, and observe farm rules such as no smoking.

THREE CHIMNEYS - Old Frankfort Pike, Midway. Tours are offered several days a week, and are by appointment only. Please call or email for an appointment. For the safety of our visitors and our stallions, we must limit our tours to 25 or 30 persons and this is done on a first-come, first-serve basis, so we recommend that appointments be made well in advance. This is especially true at busy times of the year, like during the Keeneland Spring and Fall Racemeets. (And Kentucky Derby Week is usually booked six months in advance.) There is no charge for the tour. We do ask visitors to remember that this is a working farm, and not a zoo or petting farm, and to consider that this may not be a place to bring children with short attention spans, or who are not mindful of their parents.
