GEORGETOWN, KY - AUGUST 8, 2017 – Grab your handy compass and geographical map for Scott County’s GeoTrot: Geocaching in Horse Country event on Saturday, August 12th. Spend the entire day navigating along country roads passed charming horse farms to some of the most historical locations in Scott County, Kentucky.

This year marks the first official countywide Geocaching event hosted by Georgetown/Scott County Tourism. The kick-off takes place at Royal Spring Park in downtown Georgetown on Saturday, August 12th with registration and passport pick-up from 8:30 – 11 a.m. Event participants begin their adventure by finding the 12 corresponding geocache locations using the Geocaching app, GPS coordinates, or directions for a physical map. Geocache locations are found at Scott County attractions such as Georgetown College, Yuko-En on the Elkhorn, Ward Hall, Old Friends, Country Boy Brewing, and the Sadieville Rosenwald School.

“We are excited about this event because it brings people to Scott County from other parts of the country as well as those from other counties within Kentucky,” says GeoTrot creator Barbara Fox. “We are grateful for the property owners that have allowed us to place a geocache along the Geotrot trail, highlighting the rich history behind each stop throughout Scott County. This year's event mirrors the successful 2016 Historic Buffalo Geotrail held in Stamping Ground.”

Pre-registration and Assumption of Risk forms are available prior to the event at the Georgetown/Scott County Tourism office or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Completed passports must be turned in by 2:30 p.m. the day of the event at Royal Spring Park to receive a prize. If you are unable to complete the passport during the event, you can turn in your completed passport to Georgetown/Scott County Tourism during office hours.

Contact Georgetown/Scott County Tourism at 502-863-2547 for more information on Scott County’s GeoTrot: Geocaching in Horse Country event.

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting activity that uses GPS coordinates to locate hidden Geocache containers. A Geocache container houses customized trinkets for Geocachers to collect or replace, and a rubber stamp to mark the geocache location. GeoTrails are designed hunts featuring specific locations or attractions that are typically unfamiliar to Geocaching participants. Geocaching trails are typically recorded on the geocaching.com app or with a designated GeoTrail passport. Visit www.geocaching.com for additional Geocaching information.
