Get your RV on in Georgetown

  By: Kathy Witt

If it feels like RVs are taking over the highways, it’s because RV ownership has reached record levels, with more than 11 million U.S. households now owning a Recreation Vehicle – the highest level ever recorded.

According to the RV Industry Association, RV ownership has increased a whopping 62% since 2001 (with the interest really climbing since the pandemic struck) and it’s easy to see the appeal. Owners love the freedom of taking their vacation-home-on-wheels for frequent weekend getaways or mini-trips to see America in style and comfort. From the mountains and beaches to popular tourist attractions and small towns, there are parks and campgrounds of all shapes and sizes to pull into as whim and wanderlust dictate.

Georgetown is just the type of getaway RVers long for – that off-the-beaten-path destination set amidst the rolling hills of Kentucky Horse Country where there is so much to discover and enjoy: Elkhorn Creek, the perfect watering hole for fishing and floating; the four-season Yuko-en on the Elkhorn, a Kentucky-Japan Friendship Garden, made for strolling and reconnecting with nature; Whispering Woods Riding Stables, where you can ride like the wind over more than 250 rugged acres; Veterans Memorial Wildlife Park, for hunting, fishing, birding and hiking (see related ChatSnap, “Hiking, hunting, fishing, trapping at Veterans WMA”; and acres of farmland where you can buy fresh produce and flowers, visit the petting zoo, eat homemade fried apple pies washed down with fresh apple cider and more.

Not only that, but two Georgetown businesses are equipped to sell and service RVs of any kind. They also sell accessories and gear for your RV.

And then there is the quiet beauty of accommodations that are surrounded by greenspace and sheltered by stands of trees and featuring all the amenities that elevate the camping experience to resort-level fun.
