GEORGETOWN, KY – JULY 15, 2019 – The second annual Elkhorn Creek Float Fest – cancelled in late May – has been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3, at Peninsula Park in Scott County. This family-friendly event features a full day float from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Kentucky’s longest and loveliest creek and includes music, food and prizes, and a chance to learn about local waterways. Click here for more details.
BYOT (bring your own tube)
Elkhorn Creek Float Fest takes place at Georgetown’s beautiful Peninsula Park, near 101 Payne Avenue. Participants may bring their own tube – the bigger the float, the better! – or rent one through pre-registration. Single tubes: $10; double tubes: $13. Air is available onsite.
Day-of registration remains $10 per person (all ages). Float rental will be limited and on a first come, first serve basis. NOTE: Life jackets are mandatory. Water shoes are highly encouraged.
Food trucks will be onsite for purchases or tubers can bring their own picnic.
Float, relax, repeat
Floating on Elkhorn Creek is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants may float down the creek as many times as they wish. The float includes one entry point with a “lunchtime” exit point of approximately a 1.5-hour float and a longer exit point of up to a 4-hour float. A wagon will be available for participants at the final exit point to ride back to the point of entry. Float time will depend on the weather prior to the event as float times are determined by the slowest waterflow of Elkhorn Creek.
Informational signs along the waterway along with interactive information booths on land will illustrate what a treasure Elkhorn Creek is and ways visitors can be good stewards of this important body of water.
The Elkhorn Creek Float Fest is coordinated by Georgetown/Scott County Tourism and Georgetown-Scott County Parks & Recreation. Rain date: Saturday, Aug. 10. The Elkhorn Creek Float Fest is a family-friendly event, but independent swimmers ONLY are encouraged on the creek. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. More information is available at the Facebook event page at www.facebook.com/events/444579426103942. Pre-registration is available until Thursday, August 1st.
